Young Person’s Essay Competition - Run in conjunction with Property Week and sponsored by Johnson Controls Global WorkPlace Solutions, this year’s essay competition invited people under the age of 30 to write 500 words on one of three topics; the impact of lease liabilities on occupiers, the role of social media for occupiers and whether there is a need for more ethnic diversity in property.

Winner Helen Casey, who works for Legacy Portfolio, wrote a persuasive essay on the subject of ‘Generation Twitter’, in which she displayed that she clearly believes and practices what she talks about and included some ‘top tips’.

Sustainability & Innovation - Sponsored by hurleypalmerflatt, this award recognises a project, process or product bringing new ideas and fresh thinking to corporate real estate and workplace design.

Winner Ruth Standring from Standard Chartered Bank leads a team delivering up to 18% reduction in emissions in what is an industry-leading example of how to implement global sustainability, whilst recognising portfolio scale and diversity. By focusing on local markets, Standard Chartered creates relevant sustainability solutions that make a real impact on the ground and continue to drive the environmental sustainability agenda in the many countries in which it operates.

Partnership of the Year - This award recognises the increasing importance of not simply service provision but ‘partnerships’. Collaborations which, through exceptional business practices and a solution-based approach, have exceeded the business expectations of their customers and benefited an organisation’s business model or profitability.

The winning partnership is Cushman Wakefield and building supplies firm Wolseley for ‘Project Stuart’, in which they implemented the first major outsourcing of a surplus UK lease portfolio in one single transaction. The project reduced gross liability and subtenant risk by approximately 50% within the first six months.

Executive of the Year - Sponsored by SEGRO, this award honours an individual who has demonstrated the highest quality of leadership, as recognised within an organisation and the industry. It is a reflection of how the nominee has raised the profile of the industry and its value to business, led major change and earned the respect of his or her peers.

Winner John Killey of Citi Group has brought one of the largest global corporations to a position of financial sector leadership in sustainability, with projects such as the first LEED platinum-rated data centre in the world.
