In the wake of the 2009 recession and the ensuing 'new economy of scale,' we've got to do things differently, says Sven Govaars of Gensler in a newly published Member Viewpoint.
Change for the sake of change? Hardly.
It's more like, use macro-changes to change your own approach to managing CRE, but you'd better bring a big picture view to this more holistic mix. "By looking at forces and trends reshaping organizations, it is apparent that they are the same ones that will allow companies to change the way they work. Many are not new though they are undergoing a major overhaul of their meaning and use," he comments.
Sven writes:
"One thing I know is that there is no going back to ‘the way it was’ before the disruptions, not that we would want to. No matter how comforting we might think it would be to use our past experiences to help us solve our current problems, these are altogether different circumstances. Unlike any other time in recent memory, improvement will be as much a matter of perspective as any positive notation on an income statement or balance sheet. We are in uncharted territory and we have to change the maps."
