I attended the session on social media at CoreNet yesterday and it was interesting to see how different companies are applying this form of communication within their businesses. Here are a few things I learnt that were completely new for me:
- Social media doesn’t always have to be public – companies can create secure social networks using private enterprise tools such asYammer or Chatter
- Companies like Microsoft have specialists dedicated to thinking of new ways to create rich social experiences online – find out more atFuse Labs
- Jones Lang LaSalle is active in social media – for example onTwitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, Facebook and blogs such as this one or our Green Blog – I didn’t realize we used so many channels!
- Social media has huge potential to be used in disaster situations for crisis communications and as part of business continuity planning – very relevant to those of us in FM and PM
- We need to understand social media if we are going to understandGeneration C – the Content generation – and be able to relate to staff and customers who are social media users
I have now resolved to pilot an internal social networking forum as a way of connecting with my team of people across Asia Pacific!
