Every fall millions of
starlings flock around my home in Cincinnati. Two years ago I was driving with my kids and we were talking about them. I asked why they thought the birds acted this way. My 15 year old son suggested they get together to reproduce. I wasn't sure about this one with it being fall, but the idea made good sense from a 15 year old boy. My 12 year old daughter suggested they were getting close to stay warm. Hummmm... And my 6 year old sone said they do it to have fun. All in all, I felt they had three thoughtful reasons.
Ultimately it got me thinking enough to end up writing the article above to explore the greater meanings within the natural behaviors of flocking. Seems to me a relevant analogy for why people work, and why work is so complex and challenging.
I look forward to your additions to this idea, and the results it may shed on the nature of people at work and the places they work within.
